Beechey Island (Iluvialuit) is an island situated in the Arctic Archipelago of Nunavut, Canada, in Wellington Channel. It holds significant historical value as the site of several key events in Arctic exploration. In 1845, Sir John Franklin set up his first winter camp here during his ill-fated search for the Northwest Passage. The island also houses the graves of three Franklin expedition members - Petty Officer John Torrington, Royal Marine Private William Braine, and Able Seaman John Hartnell. Visitors can explore memorials to these explorers, as well as Northumberland House and the Franklin camp graves. Beechey Island offers a glimpse into the challenging yet captivating world of Arctic exploration. Activities include hiking, historical tours, and experiencing the untouched Arctic wilderness.
